Visual Studio Code battles and in most cases, Visual Studio Code won my heart again I am talking about Visual Studio Code 1.18 (November Update) and the Python extension v.0.8.0 (9 November 2017). Asana, Microsoft, and Intuit are some of the popular companies that use Visual Studio Code, whereas Atom is used by Lyft, Typeform, and PedidosYa. While as per my knowledge Visual studio Code is built on top of atom project and have added functionalities. Anyways, that is when I started testing P圜harm vs. I spent a couple of hours porting my atom settings (font family, etc.) and extensions to VSCode. Holy balls The editor opened up in 2-3 sec. Just like most IDEs, VSCode has an extension marketplace containing thousands of plugins with varying quality. It is quickly becoming a crowd favorite thanks to its excellent performance and the exuberant amount of features it offers. For reference, I am using Atom for the past 6-7 months. June 27th 2017 Resources Visual Studio Code is a free, cross-platform text editor developed by Microsoft. ![]() I can afford to go to plain text editor if I have to, but I cannot afford my machine getting stuck. In the comments section, some people said that VSCode was faster and better than Atom. I cannot afford my machine to go down even for a minute, thus it kept itching deep in my mind to change the IDE. But, (as with anyone who has ever used P圜harm, IntelliJ IDEA, Android Studio or any similar IDE by IntelliJ and yes I have not used the CLion, so I cannot say anything for it but data suggests it's no different) you know that P圜harm is a memory and CPU hog. Then, I shifted my interests to P圜harm for a while. I used Visual Studio Code a few months ago and I was let down, I admit. Both IDEs support basic Python development, autocomplete suggestions, linkers, and extensibility of the IDE to support custom toolchains during development. Visual Studio Code is an extremely lightweight IDE, whereas P圜harm has somewhat backend services and modules that are needed to load before the IDE can start. P圜harm by IntelliJ and Visual Studio Code by Microsoft are the two primary IDEs that I keep using for Python development. ![]()
